Diario HOY | IPS: sin plata para jubilados, pero sí para viajes caros

The IPS (Instituto de Previsión Social) is a fundamental institution in Paraguay, providing essential services to retirees across the country. However, recent news would suggest that they might not be managing their finances as well as they ought to. Reports have surfaced that the IPS is unable to cover the cost of some critical services, which creates a concerning gap in support for their beneficiaries. On the other hand, the IPS is also spending significant amounts of money on luxurious and unnecessary expenses.

This is a worrying development that raises questions about the priorities of the IPS and their decision-making process. It is unacceptable that the institution responsible for the well-being and care of retirees does not have sufficient funds to provide for their basic needs. It is even more distressing to see these shortages co-existing with reports that the IPS is willing to spend large sums of money on lavish trips and other items.

One can only wonder how such a harmful and unjust situation was allowed to come about in the first place. It is the obligation of the IPS to prioritize the well-being of its elderly beneficiaries and ensure they have their necessary needs met. It is not idle to assume this institution was established for this purpose and should seek to maintain that vision. It is clear that the IPS is not fulfilling its mandate with respect to ensuring a comfortable retirement for those who rely on it.

The lack of funding for essential services such as medicine, hospitals, and home care must be addressed by the institution as a matter of urgency. The IPS must also demonstrate transparency and accountability with regards to its priorities and the way funds are allocated. The Paraguayan public deserves nothing short of excellent services and institutions that can be relied upon. It is high time that proper measures be taken to ensure that IPS is allocating its funds in a manner that is favorable to retirees and not just other sectors.
