The century-old Italian haute couture house presented its Fall/Winter collection at Milan Fashion Week 2024, titled ‘ARCHIVE PEEKABOO & ALTA MODA.’
Combining quintessential Made in Italy elements with a fusion of archival silhouettes, this collection offers a range of versatile pieces suitable for both day and evening wear. The palette features natural tones such as vanilla, cream, gray, and nude, complemented by pops of red, tobacco, green, pink, and black. Silhouettes vary from form-fitting to softer lines, characterized by drapery, asymmetrical elements, and intricate embroidery. Fabrics such as wool blends, velvet, floral jacquard, lace, and leather accentuate the texture of each garment.
However, the most captivating aspect lies in the ‘Alta Moda’ items. The brand presentation provided an insight into the fashion house, allowing guests to witness guest designer Matteo Thiela’s meticulous handcrafting process and archival work. Thiela seamlessly merges the sartorial heritage of Gigliola Curiel with the allure of the Raffaella Curiel era, producing six stunning evening dresses. Utilizing millions of threads of pure silk, Thiela creates intricate and unique patterns, exploring the interplay of light and shadow, black and white, merging minimalism with romantic luxury.
Thiela eloquently summarizes his approach, stating, ‘Sensuality is an intrinsic art of humanity. For an artist, a piece of clothing must be a work of art.
